Sure at first - it's great to feel "I'm not alone" -- but I wonder how much that creates a complex of "No one but ex-jw's can ever understand me." - to me that seems dangerous and limiting as well. And yet - I used to believe it was true.

A few of your statements, such as the one above, would lend to one thinking that you are about to make a point, or are making one quite subtly. I do believe that 'no one but ex-jws can ever understand' certain parts of my life. As my husband and I embark on having babies, I am consulting with other mothers, my friends, both in person and via internet. However, as we embark on becoming parents without the support or love of our own mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, because they won't speak to us - with the feeling that we are completely alone and sometimes completely worthless and foolish in this very powerful decision in our lives - I come here, and my husband pops in for a read about once a week, and we know-we know it-we are not alone.

'Dangerous and limiting' exists in the christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses, not here.

How Do You Now Console Someone Who Has Lost Someone In Death?

my dear friend's 34 year old son recently was found dead by a girlfriend after calling him repeatedly and never getting a call back.

meanwhile my friend was on his way back from florida when he got the awful news.

he asked me for some encouraging scriptures to share with him for some consolation.

I'm so sorry about your friend's son. In desperation, I can see someone wanting some explanation or something from a higher power, maybe some bible passages will help him immediately, if he swings that way, and he seems to. I guess, just remember that this time is for him, give him what he needs and be with him as much as you can-in person or on phone, that's what you can do to be a friend to him.

but how many times did WTS literature warn us against using religious platitudes to console someone, like 'when your son's resurrected, we'll all go play with the lions. . .', oh spare me.

I've done things that I never did and never would have dreamt of while a Hoho. Naughty things. Nothing illegal like drugs or tripping the blind, no way, not that naughty.

I've always believed that doing the 'right thing', whatever that is to you or to me, is part of being a card-carrying Human. My husband and I both will go out of our way to go back into the store for instance, to pay for items missed on the bottom of the grocery cart, and we'd absolutely decline an opportunity to hide income in order to not pay correct taxes, or cheat a co-worker out of a sale.

Let's just say that we look at produce in a whole new way.

Jesus never had it so good. That's all.

just wanted to share my story.... i was raised a jw all my life, my mother and father married and divorced twice, my mother was disfellowshipped when i was 6 and never came back, choosing a career, and went through various men.

i was raised by my very loving and wonderful father, easily father of the century in my opinion.

all my life i was a great kid, example in the hall, great grades, got a full college scholarship, etc.
